While the lazy days of summer are still here, some of us dream of nothing better than sitting on the lawn chair or laying on the beach blanket with a good book. And while your list of summer reads may already be long, there’s been a spate of recent recommendations you don’t want to miss.
First up, the genre of “summer reads” i.e. books that seem especially well-suited for long summer days. For some suggestions, take a look at AARP’s list of the best-selling summer books from the past 50 years. Or take a look at the TED giant summer reading list.
If you’re thinking that you want a more serious set of iconic recommendations, then check out the recent list from The New York Times of the best 50 memoirs of the past 50 years. Or bigger still, there’s a recent list from The Washington Post of the best books to read at every age from 1-100. That’s one to share with the whole family.
Finally, if you’re looking to be truly inspired, and are more drawn to the work of specific authors rather than a random book, then check out 100 Years: Wisdom From Famous Writers On Every Year Of Your Life written by writer and journalist Joshua Prager, who has searched the works of great writers for advice on how to live no matter your age. And if that topic lures you in then put down your reading glasses and watch this recent TED talk by Prager describing his process and results.
