December 5, 2018
Just when you think that walking is the perfect exercise for you comes a new study that suggests you may want to up your exercise intensity. Recently published in the European Heart Journal, this new study out of Germany examined the impact of exercise at the cellular level. You may remember that about a year ago in agebuzz, we posted about “telomeres,” those caps at the end of your chromosomes that can shorten as you age and thus usher in a number of age-related illnesses. Well, this new study found that by partaking in High-Intensity Interval Training, or such aerobic exercises as swimming or biking, you’re likely to lengthen your telomeres, thus contributing to healthier aging. Read more about the study here and click here to get suggestions for some high-intensity workouts. But don’t abandon your strength training either- just find time in your schedule to include both of these types of exercise.
