Nearing Ninety: Writer Judith Viorst Pens Some Poetry As She Approaches Age 90
April 10, 2019
If you’re blessed to be able to say you’re approaching age 90 (or beyond!), what do you think your attitude should be? Well, according to the beloved writer (and soon to be nonagenarian) Judith Viorst, she’s reached the age where she’s slowed down and begun to smell the proverbial roses (while also, luckily for us, maintaining her lovely sense of humor, and, “a lot of complaining.”) It’s all on display in her brand new poetry book Nearing Ninety: And Other Comedies of Late Life. While many of us know her from her array of terrific children’s books (including the ever-loved Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day), Viorst has in fact crafted a series of humorous poetry books covering every one of her decades from 30- 90. In essence, her take on turning 90 can be summed up as, “What else can you do but laugh and pay attention to the here and now?” To find out more about her attitude and gratitude at turning 90, enjoy these recent interviews with her- both written and audio.
