In Style: Valuable Fashion Advice From Older Women In The Know
February 20, 2019
Once we’ve reached a certain age, many of us are not really interested in being constrained by rules or other people’s opinions of how we should live our lives. And that holds true in the realm of fashion as well. By the time we’ve reached a “seasoned maturity,” most of us know what feels “authentic” on our bodies and we’re comfortable enough in our own skin to figure out what image we want to put forth in the world- if we even care at all.
Recently, over at WhoWhatWear, a group of over-50 ladies let loose about what rules they’ve abandoned as they strive to dress stylishly and pleasurably for themselves. So roll up your sleeves and take a look at their suggestions here. And over at That’s Not My Age, style blogger Alyson Walsh urges you to find the one piece that can “whoop up” your wardrobe while otherwise sticking to what’s in your closet. Or, maybe you want to perk up your wardrobe with a few well-chosen new accessories for the spring: The ladies at Lustre urge you to think about color and elegance as you make your selections. And speaking of color, you need to see the vivid clothes of style influencer Arlinda McIntosh who, at age 61, has created a booming fashion business on Instagram as she models her own creations from her clothing line, Sofistafunk. Finally, if you’re on the prowl for clothes that have attitude without ageism, then check out the British clothing site The Bias-Cut, started by founder Jacynth Bassett, who’s been heralded as a pioneer of style at any age. And, no matter what you buy, the key is to please yourself.
