Glad To Hear It: New Podcasts To Entertain And Educate You
October 14, 2020
Many of us have watched way too many reruns, gotten tired of binging on detective series, and outpaced the introduction of new streaming movies. Let’s face it- if we’re looking for mental stimulation, we may be weary of trying to find new prospects. So perhaps just in time, we have some newly recommended podcasts to introduce you to, so that while you’re out walking or on the treadmill, you can stimulate and entertain your mind. As you may remember, at the beginning of the pandemic agebuzz introduced you to an array of recommended podcasts along with some tutorials as to how to start down the podcast path. If you don’t recall or are new to agebuzz, you may want to click here for a review and refresher.
As a way to bring you personal stories and professional insights about many aspects of aging, you might want to start with the podcast of Dr. Leslie Kernisan, expert host of the website Better Health While Aging and now, host of the Better Health While Aging podcast. Recent episodes have touched on such topics as flu shots, COVID, and a range of other health concerns. If you’re a caregiver for an older loved one, then you should check out the new podcast from the Stanford University Center on Longevity whose new podcast, When I’m 64, has begun a series of conversations with experts and family members around issues of caregiving.
If you want to dig into a more intimate, personal conversation, then perhaps begin listening to the podcast Death, Sex and Money, from WNYC in New York. Hosted by journalist Anna Sale, this series addresses previously taboo topics that are often not typically discussed in a public realm. And speaking of taboo topics, Death, Sex and Money has now begun a dive into what it’s like to be an older adult in the time of COVID. With an invitation to listeners to call or email their stories and experiences, the podcast is inviting you to get into a conversation with your fellow older adults about how your life has changed this year. To get that conversation going, they’ve invited veteran radio journalist Jo Ann Allen (herself the host of a podcast on the Baby Boomer generation called Been There Done That) to interview guests and facilitate conversation about this topic. While many of us deeply reflect on the current state of our lives, few of us have the opportunity to share our thoughts in public- but now’s your chance courtesy of WNYC!
Finally, on a somewhat lighter note, more geared for entertainment, you should check out the podcast recommendations for women over 50 from Prime Woman.
