So we’re how many weeks into sheltering-in-place? If you’ve lost count, join the club. And, if you’ve exhausted your recipe list, completed your backyard marathon run, and used up your patience with podcasts, we have yet another list of delightful distractions to keep you occupied. Take a look at the following:
-If you’d like to be introduced to some new music options, consider the following:
-Watch the immensely talented performer Jacob Collier perform in a Ted Talk from his London home;
–The New York Times has a list, along with video clips, of 9 new songs from such performers as Norah Jones and Bon Iver;
-The Guardian has a new section of its website called Listener’s Digest, which introduces you to the catalogs of some of the world’s best musicians;
-Listen to live music, direct from the homes of some noteworthy as well as new performers, through the website StageIt;
-If you’re hoping to find some good new books, take a look at this list of the 10 most checked-out books this month from The New York Public Library; Or check our NPR’s Book Concierge, with thousands of titles recommended by NPR staff and book critics; And see how these noteworthy authors are spending their quarantine time;
-Looking for game or puzzle options? Mental Floss has a list of 7 games to play online with family and friends, or try downloading a crossword puzzle or sudoku game for free from puzzles.ca
–Looking for your next film to watch? The choices are endless, and most of these are free:
-Netflix has downloaded 10 of its documentaries for free viewing on YouTube;
-The website Great Big Story is your go-to website for short, creative visual storytelling and videos, all for free;
-The New York Times has 15 free short films that are worth your watch;
-The website LongReads has compiled a list of 25 films and provided the magazine articles on which these films were based;
-The Guardian has a feature called My Streaming Gem, featuring under-the-radar films recommended by film critics;
-The Huffington Post has compiled a list of the best shows to watch on Netflix this month;
