Your bike may be in storage right now but here’s some motivation to pump up those tires and get moving. Biking is one of the best ways to stay healthy and active as you age. If you need some inspiration, watch 82-year-old Alf Peters and 70-year-old Kittie Weston-Knauer take command of the course on their bikes. Peters began mountain biking at age 70 after a difficult bout with cancer and is now out on the trails at least three times a week. Weston-Knauer began BMX biking at the urging of her 10-year-old son when she was 40 years old, and she is now the oldest female BMX racer in the country. She competes in over 25 races a year, often riding against much younger women. Watch her race and out-maneuver her competition here. And for those of you who prefer a more casual attitude toward biking, you should know that British bike manufacturer Isla Bikes now offers a bike specifically designed for those who may have a bit less flexibility and strength. Read more about their design innovations and devotion to senior riders here. Finally, if you find yourself getting pumped up with excitement and want to learn how to ride faster on two wheels, here are some tips to help you improve your speed. As H.G. Wells said, “Every time I see an adult on a bicycle, I no longer despair for the future of the human race.”
