A Lot Or A Little: What’s Your Skin Care Approach?
A Lot Or A Little: What’s Your Skin Care Approach?

By the time you reach a certain age, you may think you have it figured out: what you need to do to keep your skin clean, clear and fresh, if not exactly “youthful.” But in fact, technology seems to be one step ahead of us all, and now, with the introduction of “data-driven” skincare products, you’ll need to make room on your ever-more-crowded bathroom counter for products and appliances that can bring you personalized “perfect” skin. According to a recent report in J. Walter Intelligence, cosmetic companies like the Japanese brand Shiseido, and the new MIT-backed startup Atolla, are creating subscription-based cosmetic skincare that will track and analyze your skin and provide unique products in response. Sounds like your skincare routine could get a lot more complicated.
However, according to “aging-influencer” Sarah Jane Adams, who uses the tagline “my wrinkles are my stripes,” less is so much more for your skin as you get older. In a recent interview in Man Repeller, the 64-year-old Ms. Adams reveals her low-maintenance routine, which primarily focuses on moisturizing her skin (and take a look at New York Magazine’s best moisturizers for “mature” skins here). Her skincare philosophy? She dismisses any product that has the words “anti-aging” in it, or that has too much packaging or tiny print. She tries to use organic and vegan products, and her one, go-to make-up item? A simple bold red lipstick (and for lipstick “mistakes” common among older women, purse your lips and read here). She must be doing something right, as she has almost 185,000 people following her on Instagram. For more on Sarah Jane, squeeze out some moisturizer and follow her on Facebook here.
